A woman has died after getting shot during a carjacking in Madison overnight.
The incident happened around 11:00 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Highland Cove Apartments, at 714 Due West Avenue.
Metro Nashville Police officers said the gunman walked up to a vehicle Maria Brown, 29, of Richards Road, was in and demanded money.
Brown, and the passenger said they didn't have cash, and that's when the gunman shot the Brown, and forced the two out of the car and took off.
Brown was pronounced dead at TriStar Skyline Medical Center.
One woman visiting her mother moments after the shooting says it could have been her in that situation.
"Me and my kids barely missed it, because we just pulled up and it could have easily been us that he was robbing trying to steal the car. It's very sad," said Erica Little.
Investigators said they're searching for a 2005 charcoal colored Nissan Altima, with 20” silver rims bearing specialty Tennessee license tag number 8390AL.
