Unpaid workers took to the street to demand the money they never received from a local business owner.
Jose Luis Garcia and Jennifer Reed said on Saturday afternoon they worked for Un J. Kim for three months and never received a dime.
Kim has owned Lexington Garden Apartments and Scrub-A-Duds Laundry Mat in Madison.
The couple said they had an agreement to do maintenance on Kim's businesses for a discounted apartment rate and to be compensated at $10 an hour.
Once the couple realized they were not going to be paid, they refused to continue to work and said they were kicked out of their Lexington Garden apartment.
An organizer with Worker's Dignity said this is beginning to become all too common in Nashville.
"A lot of bosses think that they can take advantage of workers due to immigration status and things like that. It’s unfortunate, but it does happen quite a bit," said Roni Nashed, of Worker's Dignity.
We reached out to the owner, Kim, but she has not returned our call.
