NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers warned drivers they’d be patrolling Interstate 40 during the busiest travel days of the year -- and they meant it.
Troopers said earlier in the week they’re launching the seventh annual "I-40 Challenge" or "CARE across Tennessee." The initiative aims to keep drivers safe during the busiest travel days of the Thanksgiving holiday -- one of the busiest traveling times of the year.

Troopers will be assigned every 20 miles on I-40 for 12-hour shifts on the busiest travel days of the weekend: Wednesday, November 27 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, December 1 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
There are 455 miles of I-40 that runs through Tennessee. In 2018, there were 46 crashes on the Wednesday before and 55 crashes on the Sunday after the Thanksgiving holiday on I-40.
During your travels across Tennessee, if you require highway assistance please dial *847 (*THP). This will connect you to a THP dispatcher.
