NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A local youth group has been helping some students get ready for the year to come.
Oasis Church kicked off a project to help pack and deliver bags of food to Kirkpatrick and Carter-Lawrence Elementary schools.
According to Second Harvest Food Bank, one in four students have gone without food during the summer break, so these teens at Oasis have been wanting to make a difference.
“Here at Oasis we really believe in teaching the students to think outside of themselves and to see beyond their world that they live in,” said Alex Pearne, Oasis Youth Pastor.
The group was also set to deliver classroom school supplies to teachers at both of those schools.
On average, teachers have spent more than $400 of their personal money on supplies and don't get reimbursed.
