CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Austin Peay has announced Head Football Coach Mark Hudspeth has resigned effective immediately.
Hudspeth led the Governors to their best season in program history, racking up a school-record 11 wins and leading the Governors to the FCS Playoff Quarterfinals.
"I want to thank Mark for his work in moving Governors football to new heights,” said Athletic Director Gerald Harrison, “His dedication to Governors football has laid the foundation for our football program to reach even greater success. We’ll get to work immediately determining our next steps to build on the momentum Mark built.”
Hudspeth was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year in his lone season at the helm. A school-record seven of his players were named first-team all-conference with four players being named to the all-American team.
“This was not an easy decision, but a very personal one,” said Hudspeth, “I need to take some time away from the game with Tyla and the kids. I could not be more thankful for my time at Austin Peay and will be a fan forever. I will miss the players and coaches incredibly and will never forget their commitment to each other and this team. I will return to coaching in the future at the right time.”
The rest of the coaching staff will remain in place while the school figures out the program's next steps.
The Governors begin team practice July 31.
