MTSU outscored Auburn 15-8 in overtime.
MTSU's Giddy Potts scored 18 points and Edward Simpson added 13. Darnell Harris scored 13 points and hauled in nine rebounds while Perrin Buford added 12 points for the Blue Raiders (6-2).
Auburn's Kareem Canty nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to tie the score at 73 with 1.7 second left, sending the game into overtime.
Canty tied a career-high with 28 points, including eight 3-pointers. Cinmeon Bowers scored 19 points with a career-high 19 rebounds for the Tigers (4-2).
Auburn's Tyler Harris fouled out with 2:40 left in overtime with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
After trailing by nine at halftime, MTSU opened the second half with a 21-7 run to take a 50-45 lead.
Auburn led for most of the early going, but Quavius Copeland's fast-break layup gave MTSU its first lead at 16-15 with 11:51 left in the first half.
Auburn coach Bruce Pearl called a timeout after Perrin Buford's jumper increased the Blue Raiders' lead to 18-15.
The Tigers closed with a 23-11 run to take a 38-29 halftime lead.
