College Football Kicks Off Thursday In Tennessee

College football officially kicks off Thursday night as both Vanderbilt and Tennessee hit the field.

The Commodores were scheduled to take on South Carolina at 7 p.m. in Nashville.

Vanderbilt said it's a great opportunity to show off the school, the team and the entire university.

But a Thursday night game means some adjustments to parking and traffic flow around town.

The stadium holds 40,000 people, so residents should expect a lot of cars to be near campus starting late afternoon.

Head Coach Derek Mason sent an open letter to fans asking them to show up in full force in white shirts for the "white out" game.

The school said it’s trying to limit the impact on the university and personnel with Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Some of the roads around the football stadium would be closed to cars all day long.

Vanderbilt has warned people who normally park in the 25th Avenue garage that streets around it will become congested closer to game time.

Further east, the Volunteers are hosting Appalachian State in Knoxville. Kickoff for that game was set for 6:30 p.m.
