ATLANTA (AP) — Cristian Espinoza scored in the second half, Hany Mukhtar recorded two assists, and Nashville SC defeated Atlanta United 2-0 on Saturday night to remain first in the Eastern Conference.
Shak Mohammed added an insurance goal in stoppage time for Nashville (6-1-1), scoring his first MLS goal after entering as a substitute.
Goalkeeper Brian Schwake made three saves as Nashville posted its fourth league shutout of the season and continued one of the strongest starts in club history.
After a scoreless first half, Nashville broke through in the 61st minute. Jeisson Palacios won the ball in midfield to spark a counterattack, and Mukhtar found Espinoza, who finished for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Mohammed sealed the result in the first minute of stoppage time. Mukhtar led another transition chance and set up Mohammed for the finish.
Atlanta United (1-6-1) created chances early but could not solve Schwake. Goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos made several saves in the loss.
Nashville entered the match coming off a midweek road victory over Club América that sent the club to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals for the first time.
