NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — When the Pelicans won the NBA Draft Lottery last month it felt was more like it was a Powerball jackpot. The prize waiting for them is Duke star Zion Williamson.

“I used to play in New Orleans and I can tell you it was Mardi Gras when that lottery came out and they were getting Zion,” former Vanderbilt coach and NBA player Bryce Drew told Newschannel 5.

The 6’8 Williamson is a highlight reel dunking machine that helped lead Duke to one of the best seasons in the country as a true freshman. He averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 68 percent from the floor. Many believe he is a franchise-changing type of player like a Lebron James or a Kobe Bryant.

Drew agrees, saying that the hype about Williamson is justified.

“He is a very elite, special player,” Drew said. “Not only is he sensational with highlights and playing above the rim and scoring and helping your team win, but he’s one of the most marketable athletes in the world right now. And so (what organization) would not dream and love having Zion Williamson on their team.”
