Legally Blind Basketball Player Signs With College

The Hillsboro girls basketball team has been preparing to face Franklin in the playoffs. The Burros have been loaded with seniors, and they've been hoping to make a deep run in the state tournament.

One of those seniors is defensive specialist Lauren Fields.

The 6'1.5" forward has overcome a severe visual impairment known as Optic Atrophy, which categorizes her as legally blind.

Corrective lenses cannot help Lauren since the issue stems from the transferring of visual information from the back of the retina to the brain along the optic nerve.

Despite her visual limitations, Lauren has earned a college scholarship and will play basketball next year at Queens University in Charlotte.
