NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashville SC used three 1st round picks to focus on their defense in the 2020 MLS Superdraft.

The club selected Indiana defenseman Jack Maher with the 2nd overall pick in the draft. Maher was the 2019 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

Nashville SC surprised Maher at his house after they announced they were picking him.

Wake Forest's Alistair Johnson was the 11th overall pick. The Canadian played both right back and defensive midfield during his college career.

Nashville SC's final selection of the 1st Round was goalkeeper Elliot Panicco from UNC-Charlotte. The 23-year-old was a Conference-USA first team pick in 2018. Panicco was selected 13th overall.

In the 2nd round, Nashville SC selected hometown boy Tanner Dieterich. Dieterich played for Clemson in college, but is from Music City.

The first two rounds of the 2020 Superdraft were held Thursday. Rounds 3 and 4 will be held on January 13.

Nashville SC's first game as an MLS franchise will be February 29 against Atlanta United.
