NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fans began lining up early Friday morning as day one of the Tennessee Titans Training camp got underway in Nashville.
Fans began gathering as early as 6:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Sports Park as the team hit the field for their first practice.
The Titans have several new faces this year on a team that finished a dismal 2-14 last season. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said he’s expecting better things in 2015.
Whisenhunt re-iterated that rookie Marcus Mariota is number one on the QB depth chart.
Mariota said he's up for the challenge but he's not conceding anything as he heads into his first NFL training camp.
“I always go in thinking, ‘I’m competing.’ I think for every player on this team, that’s been the mindset. That’s just going to make us better and it’s going to force competition within our positions and ultimately make this team great,” he said Thursday.
Wide receiver Justin Hunter's recent legal troubles did not keep him from reporting to training camp on time. Hunter was arrested over the Fourth of July weekend after a fight outside a bar in Virginia Beach.
However, Whisenhunt said it'll be business as usual for the former University of Tennessee star.
“That’s in the process and we feel good about where the situation is right now. Bu it’s in the system and we’ll see how it all progresses,” Whisenhunt said Thursday.
A total of nine practices were scheduled for fans to watch from Friday through August 16.
“It’s kind of fun to catch up and see people's predictions, kind of look at the future, look at who’s here, who is new, who is going to improve, who is going to get cut, so it’s kind of fun,” said Matt Kennedy, a fan.
