Adults laced up their skates this weekend for a free event hoping to grow the love of hockey across Middle Tennessee.

The Nashville Predators and Ford Ice Center hosted a USA Hockey "Try Hockey For Free Day" on Saturday in Antioch.

For many participants, this was the first time they skated on ice.

Kids and adults learned a few basic skills, such as balancing and skating with the puck.

"When I was growing up as a kid, my first time on the ice I was five years old. It was a 'Try Hockey For Free' event, so it's really great to see all these kids come out and try hockey for the first time," coordinator Mike Skeats said.

The Ford Ice Center was one of 500 organizations holding the specific program across the country this weekend. The next USA hockey "Try Hockey For Free Day" will be held on March 3.
