NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Several Tennessee Tech football players have tested positive for COVID-19.
The football program said Wednesday that it tested student athletes and those in the “inner bubble,” as recommended by the NCAA. Of the 113 people tested, 18 were positive – including 16 athletes and two others.
Officials said the testing was done when student athletes returned to camps and before any team workouts.
“Tennessee Tech will be using guidelines from the State of Tennessee Department of Health and the CDC regarding student-athletes who are isolated due to a positive test or quarantined due to contact tracing. The guidelines state that individuals must be symptom free and have a normal temperature for the last 72 hours of the required isolation/quarantine period in order to be allowed to return to normal activity,” the football program said in part.
Tennessee Tech says it’s planning on football team activities to begin on July 28.
