NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The start of football and girls' soccer will be delayed in Tennessee due to COVID-19.
TSSAA Executive Director Bernard Childress sent a memo notifying member schools Tuesday.
The delay comes after the extension of Governor Bill Lee's COVID-19 State of Emergency declaration that includes limits and restrictions on contact sports and activities.
While the order remains in place, schools can't have any competition or scrimmage with other schools. The order is currently set to expire August 29th.
Members schools also can't have close contact activities during their fundamental practice in the sports of football, 7-on-7 football, girls soccer, wrestling and basketball.
Childress says in the memo TSSAA are in the process of developing regular season and postseason options to present to the board for consideration.
The decision on any regular season and postseason scheduling impacts will be up to the TSSAA Board of Control.
