Every summer, places in the United States Desert Southwest receive an extra bit of rain.
Similar to certain parts of the U.S. that experience the seasons — spring, summer, fall and winter. This region experiences a wet or rainy season called the monsoon.
In a region that receives an average of less than 12 inches of rain a year, and at least a third of that falls over the course of a few months.
All of that rain in a short period of time can lead to flooding problems.
The season typically lasts until mid to late September.
