What Storm Shield can do for you ahead of Erika

Posted

As Tropical Storm Erika continues to inch closer to Florida, everyone is watching where the storm is tracking, and one of those places to watch is on the Storm Shield smartphone app.

Puerto Rico is also watching the storm, and tropical storm warnings have been issued for the island.

By the weekend, the National Weather Service will likely be issuing watches and warnings for Florida, too. Whether those will be for a hurricane or a tropical storm remains to be seen.

Storm Shield has more than 100 weather alerts, and more than a third of them pertain to tropical and coastal weather.

Not all of those alerts are automatically active, so in the days leading up to Erika's landfall, it's a good idea to make sure you're receiving those alerts.

To check this, open Storm Shield, go to the settings, manage weather alerts, and make sure the appropriate alerts are checked under "Hurricane and Tropical," "Coastal," "Marine" and "Wind."

The end of August and all through September are peak hurricane season, and that's evident with Erika, the second tropical storm in just as many weeks.
