Widespread frost moving across the country

and last updated

The second cold front this week is about to move into the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest late Thursday.

This front is ushering in some of the coldest air of the season, prompting the National Weather Service to begin issuing freeze warnings and frost advisories.

The brisk temperatures will spread out into the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest beginning Thursday night, allowing temperatures to drop into the upper 20's in some places.

From there, the entire Midwest and eventually the Northeast will start to feel the big cooldown.

These colder temperatures will be moving east the entire time, and the coldest air will finally exit the country by Monday night.

In the meantime, plan on covering up sensitive plants to keep them lasting a little later into fall before the cold of winter sets in for good.
