Drivers have been set to deal with two construction projects on both Interstate 65 and Interstate 40 that have been expected to cause some major backups.
Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Interstate 65 northbound at the Trinity Lane Bridge will be reduced to two lanes for bridge deck repair.
Drivers have been asked to consider Ellington Parkway as an alternate route.
Also, starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Interstate 40 eastbound at the Herman Street bridges on the inner loop will be down to two lanes for bridge joint repair.
Those needing to go that direction have been asked to consider Interstate 440 and Briley Parkway as alternate routes.
In order to avoid delays, officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation have urged drivers to plan ahead.
“What we run into on this weekend construction is typically there are plenty of alternate routes that people can take, but people just aren’t used to traffic on the weekends and they don’t check the traffic before they leave the house, and then they get stuck in it,” said Kathryn Shulte, of TDOT.
Those with TDOT added if drivers happened to drive by and see no one working, it's because the concrete is drying. Work on both projects should be completed by Monday morning before rush hour.
