NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The new Ascend Amphitheater in downtown Nashville is just over two weeks away from it’s opening performance.

Eric Church takes the stage on July 30th.

The concert will hold up to 6,900 people.  When events are not going on the whole area will serve as park space.

City officials say the development will connect the riverfront area to the rest of downtown.

“This is a symbol of Nashville which is creativity, which is music. It’s going to be a wonderful addition to our city. I couldn’t be any happier with the way they did this project. I think it’s fantastic,” said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.

Tuesday night the lights were turned on for the very first time.

As part of Ascend’s grand opening, a community open house is planned for Sunday, August 2 from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. There will be live music and tours of the amphitheater.
