NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said a man was facing multiple charges after he fled officers following an alleged illegal drug transaction.

The incident began in a hotel parking lot in the 1500 block of Hampton Street Thursday afternoon.

Undercover detectives saw 44-year-old Donald Newcomb purchasing marijuana from 27-year-old John Davis III.

Officers said the two men were in separate vehicles. Detective Raymond Flaherty attempted to approach the men when Newcomb put his car in reverse, then drive, and hit Flaherty.

Authorities said Flaherty was not seriously injured.

A high speed chase ensued on Trinity Lane before turning onto Whites Creek Pike.

Newcomb hit a car at the corner of Avalon Drive minutes later near Grover Street.

That vehicle then hit an unmarked police car driven by Detective Harrison Nearn. Officials said Nearn suffered a broken arm.

No other serious injuries were reported.

Newcomb attempted to flee again, but was stopped on Frances Street and taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a police officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest, failure to render aid, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Newcomb was being held on a $300,000 bond.

The other suspect in the alleged drug deal, John Davis III, was taken into custody in the hotel parking lot. Officers found him with more than ten ounces of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and $947 in cash.

Davis was charged with felony marijuana possession and was being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
