Warning for sitting governors

Voters want their favorite sons to stay at home.

That seems to be one of the lessons from the 2016 campaign. Most of the governors who are running for president have seen their approval ratings plummet in their home states. “The narrative on Bobby Jindal in Louisiana for a long time has been that he cares more about how he’s doing nationally than he does about events here at home,” says George Cross, a political scientist at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The same goes for Scott Walker in Wisconsin and Chris Christie in New Jersey. All these Republicans have faced complaints they’ve shifted further to the right in their appeals to GOP voters in early-primary states, while neglecting their duties back home.
