Last month, we announced that Kelly Clarkson was getting her own daytime talk show. The hour-long program — filled with celebrity guests, powerhouse musical performances and plenty of chit-chat — just seemed like the next natural step for someone as genuine and engaging as Clarkson.

Since “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has kicked off, viewers have been graced with some fantastic performances. But for those of us who know that the ’80s was the best decade ever for music, the Oct. 18 episode of the TV talk show provided us with a special treat.

That day, Clarkson’s special guest was the amazing singer/songwriter Cyndi Lauper, whose creative career spanned over 40 years. And when they sat down on the set’s couch together, it wasn’t just for good conversation. To the delight of absolutely everyone, Lauper and Clarkson sang a duet of Lauper’s 1986 hit, “True Colors.”

Watch the soulful performance as posted to YouTube by “The Kelly Clarkson Show”:

Lauper provided musical accompaniment on her dulcimer, and the two harmonized their way through a song I happen to love to bits, and which I suddenly feel compelled to play on repeat for the rest of the day.

The performance was pared down and intimate and absolutely lovely and, at the end, those in the audience rose to their feet for a standing ovation.

Lauper … well, she’s still got it. As for Clarkson, it seems she can do anything. In fact, she has a regular segment on her show called “Kellyoke,” in which she covers mostly high-energy songs by everyone from Annie Lennox to Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. One of my favorite “Kellyoke” segments is her cover of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” which she unsurprisingly nails, as you can see in the YouTube clip from the show:

And then there’s her cover of Lizzo’s “Juice,” because apparently Clarkson is just working her way through the guilty pleasure dance mix I have on my iPhone:

I bow down to you, Kelly.

At this moment, I’m convinced that Kelly Clarkson has the best job in the world. Every day, she gets to put on a different fabulous dress and belt out a different danceable tune.

Where have I gone wrong in my own life, Kelly?

We can’t wait to see which song she performs next — and with whom she performs it. Which singer would you like to see sing with Clarkson?
