Nordstrom sells out of dirty-looking, $530 shoes with duct tape

Perhaps it was the sheer amount of commotion they caused or maybe a lot of people just reluctantly tossed their own worn-out pairs of shoes.

Either way, a pair of shoes sold by Nordstrom left the internet in disbelief before selling out.

The department store's "Golden Goose Superstar Taped Sneaker" retailed for $530 online. The shoes, crafted to appear like worn out, scuffed shoes with duct tape across the wearer's toes went like hotcakes.

(If those hotcakes were old, though it seems they would probably sell.)

To Nordstrom's credit, the shoe description doesn't wax poetic about how great customers will feel wearing them, using adjectives like "crumply" and "grungy."

"Crumply, hold-it-all-together tape details a distressed leather sneaker in a retro low profile with a signature sidewall star and a grungy rubber cupsole," the description reads.

Nonetheless, fashion doesn't always make sense.

The shoes were just the latest in a line of fashion faux pas that has routinely confused and bewildered online audiences; from jeans that are ripped and muddy to ones that are barely there.
