Man Fatally Shot Outside Nashville Market

A homicide investigation has gotten underway after a man was fatally shot outside a Nashville market. 

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday outside the ET Market on Gallatin Pike.

Metro Nashville Police said 24-year-old Eric McClendon and 18-year-old Gregory Smith were sitting inside Smith’s parked car when a gunman inside the car fired shots, striking McClendon and Smith.

The suspect fled on foot. 

Police said Smith drove to a residence on Matthews Avenue and asked a friend to drive them to Skyline Medical Center.

McClendon was shot in the chest and died.  Smith was being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The motive for the shooting remained under investigation. The suspect was described as a young man, possibly in his teens.
