Police have identified a 27-year-old man who was fatally shot at an Antioch motel.
The shooting was reported at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the InTown Suites on Murfreesboro Pike near Hamilton Crossing.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said Dhargham Ateia had just arrived at the motel. His brother, who was on the second floor, said he heard yelling and multiple gunshots from the parking area below.
Ateia was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
Several people staying at the motel told NewsChannel 5 they heard about a dozen gunshots.
According to police, Ateia had been convicted days earlier of felony possession of 28 pounds of marijuana for resale and gun possession during the commission of a drug felony.
Investigators said he received two-year supervised probated sentences on each of the convictions, stemming from his arrest on July 3, 2017.
At the time of the shooting, Ateia was free on $30,000 bond after his October 24, 2017 arrest on charges of gun possession by a convicted felon, misdemeanor drug possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said it was later determined that the semi-automatic pistol in that case was stolen.
He was also arrested for gun theft in April of this year and was released from jail without having to post a bond.
