One person was killed overnight when he was struck by a train in Madison.
The incident happened just before 3:30 a.m. Friday near Nesbitt Lane and Gallatin Pike North. Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said the incident happened on the tracks between Old Dry Creek Road and the 1 Mile Parkway overpass.
Friday afternoon, authorities said the victim was identified by his fingerprints as 52-year-old Donald Wayne Harvill, Jr.
CSX officials said the southbound train consisted of three locomotives, 89 loaded railcars, and one empty railcar.
"CSX appreciates the swift response by local emergency personnel and extends its thoughts to those impacted by this tragic event," officials said in a statement.
Police said Harvill appeared to have been sitting on the tracks and did not acknowledge the train's horn which sounded multiple times. An autopsy has been planned.
