NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An 11-year-old was charged for bringing a gun to school and threatening to shoot a fellow student.

The student was a 6th grader at LEAD Preparatory Southeast School on Metroplex Drive.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department said the child carried a pistol onto campus and threatened to shoot another student if he told adults about the gun.

A student’s tip led administrators to find the .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol in the 11-year-old’s backpack.

Officers said the gun was unloaded and no ammunition was found in the backpack.

The student was charged with aggravated assault and carrying a pistol on campus, and was sent to juvenile detention.

Detectives said they have investigated where the child got the gun.
