SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WTVF) — Thirteen residents and five employees at a long-term care facility in Springfield have tested positive for COVID-19.
Springfield Heights tested all residents and staff after one person tested positive and was taken to the hospital Wednesday.
The facility says they have told all residents' families of the individual test results.
Residents with the virus are isolated and being cared for in separate hallways. Those who tested negative have been placed on in-room quarantine.
The facility began daily wellness checks Wednesday. Now they are conducting them every 4 hours during the day.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure we stop the spread of this within our facility,” Americare Senior Living spokesperson Patricia Cokingtin said. “Our staff and residents are following the recommended preventative action. As of March 13, we restricted visitors from entering our facility, and canceled all group activities within the building until the virus has been eradicated.”
Cokingtin says Springfield Heights has contacted the state and local health departments and is following their protocol.
