NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — An 18-year-old has been charged with assault of an officer after he allegedly crashed into a police cruiser – nearly hitting the officer.

The crash happened Monday when officers responded to an apartment on Creekwood Drive to serve an outstanding warrant.

According to a police affidavit, officers saw D'vonte Blivens go into an apartment armed with a handgun. When he came out, he started emptying out the tobacco in a cigarillo. The reporting officer said that’s a common technique for making a marijuana cigarette.

When officers turned on their lights and approached Blivens, he allegedly got into his car, put it in reverse and slammed into the side of the police car. The police report said he came “inches from striking and running over” a detective.

He took off from there and drove through the apartment courtyard before jumping a sidewalk and nearly hitting an apartment.

Police were later able to track him down at a nearby Kroger where they took him into custody. Blivens is facing additional charges for vandalism, not having a driver's license and evading arrest.
