HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Six teenagers are in jail on slew of charges including attempted murder when police said they shot into a house hitting a child in the foot.
Hendersonville police arrested six people, including four juveniles, accused in a string of crimes in the area on Wednesday night, including a shooting that sent a child to the hospital.
According to police, the crime spree began with the report of an armed home invasion at an apartment complex near Sanders Ferry Road. Shortly after, officers responded to a drive-by shooting on Cole Court. Police said the gunfire was directed at a home on the street and a child inside the home who was in bed was hit. The child was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
"I’m gone, I got to the ground because when I heard the shots, they weren’t done shooting," said Tanka, "I got to the ground, got my little cousin, she got on the ground."
The family says they don’t know why their home was targeted by the teens but was told by police more than 20 bullets were shot in their home.
They say they're lucky things were not a lot worse especially for the young victim.
"She’s good, she might be a little traumatized because she’s young she never been through anything like that," said Tanka.
Police said there was also a shooting reported on Vietnam Veterans Parkway Wednesday night. An officer saw the vehicle described in that shooting near a gas station on E. Main Street and was able to determine the group of people in the vehicle were involved in all three reported crimes.
All six people were arrested and charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, simple possession of a schedule six drug, reckless endangerment and theft of property under $1,000.
Additionally, the two adult suspects were each charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and the four juveniles were each charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. Police said one of the minors, a 17-year-old from Hendersonville, is also facing tampering with evidence and resisting stop, halt and frisk charges.
