BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – An alleged attempted child abduction at Beech Bend Park led to two arrests and charges of first degree unlawful transaction with a minor.
Officials said they were called to the park in the 700 block of Beech Bend Park Road around 1:17 p.m. Saturday about an attempted child abduction.
When deputies with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, they found 26-year-old Agustin Mendez-Intzin, of Glasgow, Kentucky, detained by park goers.
Authorities were originally told Mendez-Intzin was attempting to carry a six-year-old female out of the park when the bystanders stopped him.
Through further investigation, deputies learned Mendez-Intzin had been involved in a physical relationship with a 12-year-old female he had met a few weeks before at Beech Bend Park. Officials added the 12-year-old was the cousin of the six-year-old.
Authorities said the attempted abduction of the six-year-old was a false story from the 12-year-old.
Allegedly, Mendez-Intzin had been in contact with the 12-year-old via phone and text messaging.
Mendez-Intzin was arrested and charged with first degree sexual abuse and first degree unlawful transaction with a minor.
With Mendez-Intzin at the time of his contact with the 12-year-old was 25-year-old Juan Cipriano-Mora, also of Glasgow.
Police arrested Cipriano-Mora and charged him with first degree complicity to sexual abuse and first degree unlawful transaction with a minor.
