Two children were severely injured in Christian County, Kentucky when they were hit by a vehicle.

The wreck happened around 6:40 a.m. Friday on West Nashville Street near the entrance to the Bluegrass Lodge Apartments in Pembroke, Kentucky.

First responders were called to the scene of the crash that led to two children being taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with severe injuries.

Reports stated a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Chad Bryant, of Elkton, Kentucky, was traveling westbound to Hopkinsville when his vehicle hit the two children who were in the roadway.

Authorities said it’s believed the children had been waiting for the school bus, but it was not clear why they were in the road.

There was no indication Bryant’s vehicle left the road at any time. No charges were pending; however, officials confirmed they would be speaking with witnesses and family members of the children.

Bryant was not injured in the crash. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be involved in the wreck.

The children’s identities were not released as the investigation remained ongoing.
