2 Killed In Crash Following Pursuit In Tennessee, Kentucky

A pursuit that originated in Tennessee ended in Kentucky with a crash that killed two people.

Officials with the Kentucky State Police said they were requested to help the Allen County Sheriff’s Office around 6:01 a.m. Sunday with the pursuit.

That pursuit had been initiated by the Westmoreland Police Department in Tennessee when authorities saw the suspect vehicle speeding and driving recklessly. After trying to make a traffic stop, the pursuit began.

The pursuit then went through Allen County and crossed into Warren County in Kentucky on KY-101 where speeds reached more than 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit was called off when it reached the Smiths Grove city limits in Warren County.

However, authorities said minutes later the suspect’s vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash on KY-101 near the intersection of US 68-80. The vehicle reportedly left the road at a high rate of speed and hit a tree.

Five people were in the vehicle at the time, and three were ejected during the crash.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed three others were taken to hospitals in Tennessee where two were in critical condition and one was listed in stable condition.

No identities had been released. The investigation remained ongoing.
