MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Murfreesboro police said a 21-year-old was killed in a construction accident on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Nicholas Patrick Oliver was a flagman directing traffic when the driver of a road grader accidentally backed over him. He died at the scene.

The incident took place near Butler Drive around 12:30 p.m.

Police said the construction workers were with Rollins Excavation and were in the process of completing shoulder work. The driver of the road grader was backing up to allow a dump truck to unload gravel and was unaware Oliver was behind him, officers said.

The man's death is under investigation by the Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team but no charges are expected to be filed.
