23-Year-Old Shot, Killed Near Downtown Nashville

One man has died after being shot overnight just south of downtown Nashville.

The incident happened on University Court at the Tony Sudekum Houses around 11:20 p.m. Sunday.

Metro Nashville Police said the victim, identified as Maxime R. Assem, was found face down in the street with two gunshot wounds.

Police said he had parked his car on University Court and walked toward two residential buildings. A short time later, he and others returned to the car, where police said one of them shot him. 

Assem was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

The motive for the shooting remained unclear. No one has been taken into custody.
