NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Two high school teams got to play on SEC turf Friday night.
They played under the lights at Vanderbilt Stadium in the 2nd annual "Back Yard Burgers Bowl."
Maplewood squared off against the Springfield Yellow Jackets for rights to the Back Yard Burgers trophy.
The Nashville-based burger chain and Maplewood High School sponsored the game.
The partnership came about a few years ago as the company helped the school furnish a new cafe in the school.
The game has just been one way the company felt like it could give back to the community it has called home.
“It’s great for community morale,” said Dr. Ron L. Woodard, Maplewood High Executive Principal. “It’s great for the kids. It’s great for parents and families, and a great evening of football in a great atmosphere.”
The game signified the progress the school has been making not only in athletics, but in the classroom as well.
