MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Three people have been charged in connection with a 68-year-old Rutherford County man’s death.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s officials said Terry Wayne Barber was killed Monday night at his Walnut Grove Road home. A friend found his body two days later.

Investigators said Jacob Gailey, age 20, Brent Donavan Ross, age 21, and Vernice Darlene Farrar, age 39 – all of Murfreesboro – were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and especially aggravated robbery.

Gailey and Ross were held without bond at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Farrar is being held in a Florida detention center, pending extradition.

According to detectives, it appeared Barber had been assaulted and bound with restraints. They do not believe the murder was random, saying there was a connection between at least one of the suspects and the victim.

There could be additional arrests in the case.

Officials said Barber was known around Murfreesboro for his love of youth and college sports. He also sold SEC memorabilia from his “SEC Battlefields” van.
