A tractor trailer exiting from Interstate 40 crashed into another semi.
The wreck happened just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday on State Route 46 in Dickson and sent three people to the hospital.
Dickson Police Department Captain Todd Christian said he couldn't speculate on why the driver didn't try to stop but said the semi was traveling too fast on the exit and barreled into the intersection, essentially chopping the other semi in half.
Two people inside the semi that exited the interstate had to be flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight. They were listed in critical condition. A third victim was taken to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
The crash created a traffic backup on State Route 46 and periodically on the I-40 West exit ramp. The intersection was reopened by 11 a.m.
