Some Metro Schools students will be starting the school year off on a high note after a big event.

Sunday was the 4th Annual Back-to-School Community Day in Antioch.

Free bags stuffed full of school supplies were handed out to an estimated 1,500 children.

Organizers said this ensured students are prepared for the first day of class and also helped lessen the financial burden for families.

“It’s important to me because it's helping out with my mom,” one child said. “So she doesn't have to spend all her money buying it, and I am really grateful.”

Seeing the kids happy, the organizers said they loved being a part of a process that would help many in need.

The first day of school for students in Metro Nashville Public Schools is August 7.
