SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — A 66-year-old man was charged with sex trafficking a teenage girl on Friday, according to a Rutherford County Sheriff's detective.
Clifford Hawkins of Raspberry Lane was taken into custody outside a Smyrna hotel after a resident at the hotel called police.
The 14-year-old was a runaway who was reported missing on May 21.
According to police, Hawkins mar the victim at the Smyrna Walmart and allegedly took her to three different times to three separate locations in Rutherford County.
Hawkins was waiting for the girl to return to his car when he was apprehended by police. He was taken in for questioning and was later arrested.
Hawkins charged with attempted rape, sexual battery, contributing to the delinquency of minor and sex trafficking.
He is being held on a $33,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
This case remains under investigation.
