CLIFTON, Tenn. (WTVF) — A cluster of COVID-19 cases was reported at a Wayne County prison after mass testing was conducted last week.

The Tennessee Department of Corrections said 1,410 inmates at the South Central Correctional Facility were tested for the virus on Thursday and Friday and 965 inmates had positive results. The facility is still waiting on the results of 168 tests.

TDOC said mass testing was ordered after several inmates and staff at the facility began showing symptoms of the virus.

All inmates who have tested positive and do not show symptoms will be monitored daily with health assessments. Staff will self-quarantine and will be monitored for symptoms.

The facility is operated by CoreCivic.
