NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The community garden and gazebo at Whitsitt Elementary School was vandalized over the weekend.
According to the school's principal, Justin Uppinghouse, signs were destroyed and "the gazebo was completely totaled".
Uppinghouse announced the act of vandalism in a Facebook post on the elementary school's page on Monday. The post went on to say that the learning area in the garden was torn apart and that statues were broken as well.
When asked about the incident, Principal Uppinghouse provided the following statement:
“It is sad that this happened to our school, but we are maintaining our focus on ensuring that students continue to have access to meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that will make the garden even better than before. We appreciate those in our community who are stepping up to help support our students.”
If you have any information regarding who is responsibly for this act of vandalism, it is asked that you report it to the school.
