Activists Hold Immigration Youth Rally Outside GOP Dinner

Immigrant Youth from across the state came together to rally outside of the Music City Center where Vice President Mike Pence attended a GOP dinner.

The protesters were made up of Deferred action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and their supporters.

DACA was established in 2012. It grants a 2-year renewable work permit and temporary relief from deportation to certain undocumented individuals who entered the country as children.

Ten states have pushed to end the DACA program, including Tennessee. However, in response, a group of senators introduced the DREAM Act of 2017, which would make young immigrants eligible for lawful, permanent residence.

Activists rallied at Walk of Fame Park then marched to the music City Center at the same time Vice President Mike Pence spoke to Tennessee members of Congress.
