More often than ever before, if you drive through a Nashville neighborhood, you're bound to see security signs in people's front yards, warning any would-be trespassers that the home is protected by a security system.
“Nowadays, it’s so crazy out there. You can’t even leave your door unlocked anymore. People just want the peace of mind," Drew Garland, a technician for NCA Alarms, said.
NCA Alarms has installed alarm systems for homes and business throughout Middle Tennessee. “We monitor some of the Titans' houses, some of the bigger Country Music stars,” Garland explained.
Professional security systems, equipped with door and window sensors, motion-detectors, smoke-detectors, and other devices used to only be for people with a lot of money, but as technologies have advanced, security systems have become more affordable.
Many security systems require a one-time install fee, and beyond that, there's a monthly monitoring fee by numerous different companies.
Monitoring can cost a household anywhere from $20 to $50 a month, depending on the service.
Technologies have also allowed people to install their own security systems, as well as their own security cameras.
Cameras allow homeowners to monitor their home both while they're at home and while they're away.
Many cameras will allow you to save video to a cloud service, that way you can access the video at a later date if you need it.
