A man has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after a fatal crash in Old Hickory.

The incident happened on Robinson Road at Industrial Drive Thursday evening.

Authorities said the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Tommy T. Hamilton, hit four vehicles near the intersection, killing one person. Four other victims had non-life threatening injuries.

The victim who was killed has been identified as a 41-year-old man from El Salvador.

Police said Hamilton was first involved in a hit-and-run crash in the 1200 block of Robinson Road. He then continued north where he hit a van.

Reports stated he again fled at a high rate of speed, crossed through oncoming lanes, swerved back into his lane, and hit four vehicles. It was the driver of one of those vehicles who died at the scene.

The vehicles had been stopped at the intersection for a red light or had been coming to a stop.

Hamilton has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of vehicular assault, and driving on a suspended license.

Reports stated Hamilton smelled of alcohol. Officials said he admitted to drinking beer before the crash, and empty beer cans were found in his truck.

A blood sample was taken from him for analysis. Hamilton was taken to Skyline Medical Center and will be taken into custody after being released from the hospital.
