A woman arrested for reportedly shoplifting also allegedly assaulted officers while trying to escape custody.

Authorities with the Mt. Juliet Police Department said 35-year-old Latasha Jiles, of Murfreesboro, was booked into the Wilson County Jail on seven charges related to the incident.

Officers were called to the Walmart in the 300 block of Pleasant Grove Road on Thursday in reference to someone who had shoplifted at Academy Sports and Outdoors on the same road then fled to Walmart.

Officials found Jiles and a 17-year-old male in a parked vehicle in Walmart’s parking lot.

An investigation revealed Jiles and the 17-year-old reportedly took multiple pairs of tennis shoes at Academy Sports and Outdoors. After that, they allegedly fled to Walmart where another shoplifting incident occurred while the 17-year-old stayed in the car. Police said Jiles pushed a full cart of merchandise out of the store.

Authorities attempted to take Jiles into custody, which was when she reportedly tried to escape by fleeing in her vehicle and resisting arrest.

Two officers had cuts on their hands and heads from regaining control of Jiles. Both were treated by medics at the scene.

Jiles was charged with felony escape of custody, resisting arrest, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, two counts of theft of merchandise, and two counts of criminal trespass. She was being held on a $6,000 bond.

The 17-year-old was not related to Jiles. He was charged with theft of merchandise and released to a guardian.
