NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Spring is finally here and so is allergy season.
We've all experienced some of those common symptoms: a runny nose and itchy, watery eyes.
Allergy season typically starts in March and doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center say it's all due to tree pollen.
Although many try to avoid exposure to pollen, Dr. Cosby Stone, an Allergist Immunologist at Vanderbilt, says that actually has the opposite effect.
"If you’re tolerant, the way to maintain it, is getting out walking around and spending time outdoors is away to maintain to your tolerance,” Dr. Stone said.
He also said because of Tennessee's farming communities, many people are already tolerant of pollen.
If over the counter allergy medicines and nasal sprays don’t ease your symptoms, you should see your doctor.
