NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – — Hundreds of local kids will have special gifts under the Christmas tree thanks to a local organization.
Youth Encouragement Services (YES) hosted its annual Christmas Store on Lindsley Avenue in Nashville.
With the help of donations, the store was stocked with clothes, toys and bicycles for kids of all ages. One hundred fifty low income families were able to shop for Christmas gifts for their kids at no cost. They also left with food for a holiday meal. Volunteers estimated the store helped more than 600 inner city kids. Volunteers were also on hand to help out.
“It’s such a highlight of the season to see these families be blessed by the community, so they can provide Christmas for their children,” said Laura Troupe, a volunteer.
“We’ve got tons of volunteers, and the spirit is amazing,” added Samantha Johnson, Director of Agency Advancement for YES. “We are glad to provide this experience for the mothers in the inner city.”
