NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Several units have been destroyed after a large fire broke out at an apartment complex near Donelson.
The incident was reported Monday afternoon at a complex on Trails Circle, not far from Stewarts Ferry Pike and Percy Priest Lake.
Investigators said the blaze was likely caused by an electrical malfunction outside a home. A total of 16 apartments have been affected, and the Red Cross has been called to help those in need.
According to authorities, one woman had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and two dogs were killed. Many other pets, including dogs, cats, and ferrets, were rescued.

Officials with the Nashville Fire Department said the blaze was a two-alarm fire. A third alarm was later called out to help relieve those fighting the blaze in the intense heat.
Crews responded to the scene and worked to prevent the fire from spreading to multiple buildings. They were able to contain the blaze after fighting it for more than an hour.

Firefighters remained on the scene for quite a while to put out lingering hotspots.
